First Impressions: Maybelline Big Eyes Eyeshadow and Maybelline Hyper Glossy Liquid Liner

Last Saturday, my bf picked me up from work and we had lunch at Texas Chicken @ Jaya Shopping Center, PJ. Shamefully, I have to admit that's the second time I had Texas Chicken in that week. There's no denying that their fried chicken is deliciously made. It's juicy yet crispy! Hungry yet? My tummy is grumbling with hunger as I type. Hush, stomach. Just a few more hours to breakfast.

After lunch, I spontaneously walked into Guardian which was located on the same floor as Texas Chicken and stumbled across new goodies at Maybelline. Yes, I always have a tendency to do a rain-check on Guardian or Watsons when I'm in a mall. It's a very dangerous habit that I am trying to kick. Dangerous to my bank account, that is. Okay... Back to Maybelline. I saw this very interesting eyeshadow quad with a bolded pink word "Big Eyes" in a pink bubble smacked in the middle of it. There were no products, only testers in the picture below.

I don't exactly know what's the official name for this eyeshadow but my best guess would be "Maybelline Big Eyes Eyeshadow" and nope, I did not made that up. I got it from an internation Boots website from googling.

As you can see from the photos above, there are three shades available:
  • Smokey Brown
  • Gorgeous Pink
  • Copper Gold
The texture of these eyeshadows are buttery smooth and had very minimal fallouts. As for the pigmentation, all of the eyeshadows are extremely pigmented except the last eyeshadows from Section D (under eye area). Rating wise, Gorgeous Pink scored the best followed by Copper Gold and last but not least, Smokey Brown. There was no problem swatching the eyeshadows except the section D (eyeshadow for under eye area) for all three as I find it hard to reach and had to use my pinky to pick the eyeshadows up. If these eyeshadows are used with proper brushes, there would be very little or no problem at all in accessing it. Among all three, my favourite would be Gorgeous Pink as I love the colour combo.

Next up, it's an all-brand new Maybelline Hyper Glossy Liquid Liner! As you can see, they have changed the design of the packaging and brought in these three shades below. I must stress that these coloured liquid eyeliners has the best pigmentation and application I have ever come across.

The three shades consists of:
  • Electro Shock (Blue)
  • Gold-iation (Gold)
  • Lazer Green (Green)
Maybelline has named their shades well this time. Electro Shock does live up to its as a shocking, true blue without any obvious undertones to it. This shade of blue reminds me of American Idol's logo. The "in-your-face" kind of blue. The wowza kind of blue.

Gold-iation, should be renamed as Gold-nation instead. This gold is b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l. I'm usually not a fan of gold in makeup because it either leans too yellow or too olive-ish. But this gold shade has the perfect balance and I believe it would make dark-skinned beauties' eyes pop!

Lazer Green, should be renamed as Peacock Green or Mermaid's Tale. It's a truly jaw-dropping, breath-taking shade I have ever swatched. I'm not exaggerating. Its 'the' I want to own as it looks so magical and unique. I meltz.

All of them applied smoothly without any trouble. Superbly pigmented even with just one stroke! The best part of this eyeliner is, it has staying powers but comes of easily without staining the skin or damaging the skin by tugging it. It comes off with water and become flakes when you gently rub it off. No colour-bleeding, no smudging. Amazing.

Alright, that's all for now. I have tons of reviews to share with you but have been facing with a writer's block of late. It doesn't help when I'm particular about my writing or photo-editing. My convocation was last Thursday and finally got my certs and academic transcripts. Shall share more about it in my next post. See ya soon!

Love,
Sarah :)

Review: Maybelline Color Show Lipstick in 402 Plum-Tastic and 105 Pinkalicious

I have seen this product earlier this year on Luxola. It was launched alongside with its Color Show nail polishes and eyeliners. Purchasing lipsticks online can be quite a challenge and I wasn't ready to part my hard-earned cash for a shade that might not suit me. But I did caved in and purchase two of their nail polishes during Chinese New Year - Sweet Sunshine and Downtown Red. Shall talk about it soon. Let's not divert our attention from these new offerings from Maybelline, shall we?

As you can see, the packaging is very simple. Black plastic body with a jelly-like colour strip in the middle as an indicator to show which family colour tree these lipsticks are from. Maybelline's new Color Show line contains four catergories of shades to complement all skintones. Well done, Maybelline!

  • 5 Classic Reds - Red My Lips, Cherry on Top,  Red Siren,  Red Diva, Downtown Road
  • 7 Perfect Pinks - Crushed Candy, Pink Avenue, Party Pink, Pinkalicious, Pink Please, Pink Punch and Pink Paradise
  • 5 Noble Nudes - Coral Culture, Chic Peach, True Toffee, Nude Mocha and Disco Coral
  • 3 Proactive Plums - Plum Perfect, Sweet Orchid and Plum-tastic

Shade indicator are at the bottom.
Here, I have Maybelline Color Show in 402 Plum-Tastic and Maybelline Color Show in 105 Pinkalicious. I purchased Plum-Tastic first to test it out and I was quite blown away with its application. It applied on very smoothly and required no lipbalm which I usually put on first before topping it with a lipstick. A month later, I purchased Pinkalicious and again, I was not disappointed with the shade. I found it wearable but my boyfriend thinks its tad bit too glamarous for daily wear. Hmm.

Pretty lipsticks!
I love the jelly-like ring in the middle of the lipstick!
Each lipstick contains 3.9g of product and I personally find it a perfect size for a lipstick. I could easily carry this around in my makeup pouch without taking up so much space. It retails at RM17+ or RM16+ and available at all Watsons outlets, making it affordable and accessible to everyone. Students, now there is no reason for you to NOT look presentable during presentations or conferences! Without a doubt, substance is essential but you would like to score first impressions too, yes?

Swatches for both lipsticks
Close-up pictures of the swatches
The wear-time for these lipsticks is about 4-5 hours without eating or drinking. Another thing to note is the fruity/floral scent which I can't place a finger on it. For me, the scent does not bother me and it smells quite lovely. But if you are sensitive or particular about products with scent, then this may not be the product for you.

In comparison with Pinkalicious, Plum-Tastic looks less creamy and has a slight frosty sheen. But don't be fooled by the swatch. Look at the lip swatches below, both lipsticks applied on smoothly without any patchiness and it did not amplify any imperfections on my lips. Instead, it made my lips look plump and moisturized. I love these lipsticks!

Right : Wearing Maybelline Color Show Lipstick in 402 Plum-Tastic without lipbalm

You can purchase these lipsticks from local Watsons outlets if its available in your location or you can purchase them from Luxola as they provide free shipping for purchases above RM40! YAY!

Pros
  • Affordable
  • Easily accessible
  • Moisturizing
  • Easy and fast application (no need for lip brushes)
  • Long-wearing
  • Compact, perfect size for a lipstick
Cons
  • Fruity/floral scent (I'm not bothered about it)
  • Can't think of any at the moment.
So, what do you think?
Have you tested out these lipsticks yet?
Would love to hear from you in the comment box below <3

Wet n Wild Megalast Lipstick in Stoplight Red left a stain even after removing with a makeup remover!

Review

I won't talk much about the packaging as I have mentioned it in my previous post, read all about it here >>> Wet n Wild in Just Peachy.

There is no weird-scent or weird-taste. Weird is defined as chemically/herbally/florally/powdery or any strong smell or taste.Texture-wise, for Wet n Wild Megalast Lipstick in Stoplight Red, it is surprisingly moisturizing. It does not leave my lips feeling dry nor emphasize the lines on my lips. It applied like a dream, gliding smoothly and can be worked without an aid of a lipbalm if you don't have chapped, or extremely dry lips. Since it is a bright coloured lipstick, mistakes are more obvious hence it is best to have a lip brush to help you fill in the edges as it can smudge or feather. This lipstick stains, hence careful application is needed to avoid messy edges on a freshly applied powder/foundation.

As you can see in the pictures above, Stoplight Red is extremely pigmented and applied evenly without looking patchy. Its creamy satin matte texture gives full-coverage to any pigmented lips. It is a true red without leaning towards any coral/orange/pinks laced with strong blue-undertones.This shade works well all skintones. This is the perfect red-coloured lipstick that would suit any girl for any events/occasion.

The wear-time for this lipstick is around 6-7 hours with occasional drinking/eating, requiring little touch up varying from individuals. I am blown away with the pigmentation and finish for a lipstick with a price tag of only RM16! It beats most of the branded lipsticks I know.

DID YOU KNOW?
Red lipsticks with blue-undertones helps your teeth look whiter. Some lipsticks may make your teeth look yellow. Hence it is always best to test out lipsticks whenever possible.

  • Extremely pigmented
  • Great for newbies to test out or makeup junkies to collect

Cons

  • Limited shades available in Malaysia
  • Only available online
  • Cheap packaging (not a big turn-off because it's cheap)

Review

I won't talk much about the packaging as I have mentioned it in my previous post, read all about it here >>> Wet n Wild in Just Peachy.

There is no weird-scent or weird-taste. Weird is defined as chemically/herbally/florally/powdery or any strong smell or taste.Texture-wise, for Wet n Wild Megalast Lipstick in Bare it All, it is not as dry as Just Peachy. It can be worked without an aid of a lipbalm if you don't have chapped, or extremely dry lips. As you can see in the pictures above, Bare it All is pigmented and applied evenly without looking patchy. It applied on smoothly without any fuss. Its cream-ish matte texture gives full-coverage to any pigmented lips

As for the shade, it is beige/brown-based with a slight warm undertone. I don't see it leaning toward being pink or peach. This shade compliments any heavy eye makeup very well. This shade works well all skintones without making anyone look like a dead-duck because of its beige/brown tones. This is the perfect nude-coloured lipstick I have come across without looking too washed out/pale.

The wear-time for this lipstick is around 3-4 hours without drinking or eating, requiring to touch up or reapply after that period of time varying from individuals. I don't expect nude-coloured lipsticks, may it be pink or beige based to have a long-lasting effect because it has less colour pigment unlike its bright counterpart - the reds, pinks, oranges, or purples.

DID YOU KNOW?
Do you have a bright coloured lipstick which is neglected because you are not used to bold statement lips? Don't throw or give it away just yet. This shade can be used to tone down any bright lipsticks you have.

TRY IT!
Use nude/milky coloured lipsticks as a base, and apply the bright lipstick on top of it. The other way around works as well. Blend using your ring finger or purse your lips together to blend. Play or experiment with the two shades to find your comfort zone. You will love the end result.

Pros

  • Extremely affordable
  • Extremely pigmented
  • Great for newbies to test out or makeup junkies to collect

Cons

  • Limited shades available in Malaysia

Review : Wet n Wild Lipstick in 903C Just Peachy

Being silly, as usual. I really don't know how to pose for the camera. #fact

I have always wondered how I would look like with this particular Wet n Wild Megalast Lipstick. Thanks to +Joanne Ch'ng from Colours Cosmetics Malaysia (also known as CCM), I don't have to wonder no more. I was provided with the opportunity to review the well-known, extremely affordable 'Wet n Wild Megalast Lipstick in Just Peachy'. According to some reviews I've come across online, quite a handful mentioned that this shade made them look washed out. A big capital, N-O for me. When I first tested it out (without any makeup on), it doesn't look flattering at all. Allow me to bring you on a detailed journey of this peachy darling -

Review

First off, let's talk about their packaging. From afar, it does look somewhat appealing on the outside. The breakdown - black acrylic body, transparent acrylic cover with a silver-printed brand on the cover. I love the fact that it has a transparent cover that allows me to find the shade I want to use a whole lot quicker. As for the silver-printed brand on the cover, the ones I initially have started to wear off because of being in my makeup bag or moved around quite often.

It feels quite sturdy as a whole especially when you hold it. But when it comes to the mechanics of opening and twisting the product up, that's where the packaging flaw starts to reveal itself. I appreciate the fact that Wet n Wild designed the cover to ensure it doesn't come loose on it's own and not make a mess inside of any makeup pouch. A plus point! But, that good thing somewhat backfires as I find it a little difficult to pull open the cover. When it comes to twisting the lipstick up, it feels as if the lipstick would pop right out of the tube. Hence, you have to be very gentle and careful when playing with it. Not a big turnoff but I make sure that I'd open it carefully, trying not to damage the lipstick.

As for the pricing, I would say it is really bank-account friendly. Priced at RM16 at Colours Cosmetics Malaysia it makes me wanna buy more colours! It is great especially when it comes to unique colours in order to test the colour-wheel waters before splurging on expensive ones like Nars, MAC, Guerlian, Tom Ford, or Chanel to name a few. The price is great for girls who hardly wears makeup, makeup junkies, or girls who are looking for pigmented, quality lipsticks without breaking the bank. Yes STUDENTS, CCM hears ya!

I'm happy to report that there is no weird-scent or weird-taste. Weird is defined as chemically/herbally/florally/powdery or any strong smell or taste.Texture-wise, for Wet n Wild Megalast Lipstick in Just Peachy, it is slightly on the dry side because of its matte finish. So, you would need to exfoliate and moisturize your lips well before applying this peachy darling. You can exfoliate every morning when brushing your teeth, gently using the toothbrush to help remove dead skin cells. As you can see in the pictures above, Just Peachy is pigmented and applied evenly without looking patchy. Its cream-ish matte texture gives full-coverage to any pigmented lips

As for the shade, it is a milky peachy pink colour with neutral undertones. This shade works well with fair-skinned girls but I'm guessing this shade might make dark-skinned beauties look a little washed out.
